***The 2023 Morel Fest has taken on life after the pandemic. This year's events will begin on Friday May 19th with a car cruise and food vendors at the paved parking lot by the Riverdale bus garage on the 500 block of North Wisconsin Avenue. Saturday May 20th starting at 9:00am will be full of events. Come see a host of arts and crafts vendors, enjoy many food vendors, watch the annual parade at 3:00 p.m., support our local fire deptment at the famous Firemens Steak feed beginning at 5:00 and conclude the evening with the fireworks show at dusk. All activities will be held outdoors. A list of activities will be posted shortly****
Morel mushroom fever strikes Wisconsin every spring. The enthusiasm for a trek to the Muscoda Morel Fest held annually the weekend after Mother's Day, this year on Friday May 19th and Saturday May 20th , is so extreme you’d think there was gold in ‘them thar hills.’ Muscoda, Wisconsin’s Morel Mushroom Capital, is located in the heart of the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway following the graceful curves of the Wisconsin River. It’s the perfect day trip and opportunity to join thousands of morel maniacs from around the region.
The Muscoda Morel Fest offers family fun for children and adults. The festivities include bounce houses, arts and crafts fair, Bartels Chainsaw Carving Show, the Volunteer Fire Department Steak Feed, Kinschi Pedal Pulls, Fireworks and a Parade at 3pm. The Food and Beverage tasting area will include: Jody's Sugar Shack (chocolates), Meister Cheese,Moore Eggs, Studnicka Cattle Company and Wild Hills Winery.
The Avoca, Blue River & Muscoda Lions Club will be hosting a CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International) Chili Cookoff just around the corner from Mushroom Headquarters. The American Legion Post will provide it’s famous burgers and, if available, fried morel mushroom. Mushroom Brats will also be sold at Mushroom Headquarters.
The “morel” of the story is the trip to the Muscoda Morel Fest is a tradition that should not be missed. This spring time adventure can’t be put off, as morels are only around for a few weeks each year.
