Proudly Organized by the Village of Muscoda Festival Committee
Morel mushroom fever strikes Wisconsin every spring. The enthusiasm for a trek to the Muscoda Morel Mushroom Festival, held annually the weekend after Mother's Day, this year on Saturday and Sunday, May 16–17 , is so extreme you’d think there was gold in them thar hills. Muscoda, Wisconsin’s Morel Mushroom Capital, is located in the heart of the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway following the graceful curves of the Wisconsin River. It’s the perfect day trip and opportunity to join thousands of morel maniacs from around the region as they come to buy morel mushrooms.
The Muscoda Morel Mushroom Festival offers family fun for children to adults. The weekend festivities include bounce houses, arts and crafts fair, flea market, Bartels Chainsaw Carving Show, Effigy Mound tours, winery tours, helicopter rides, the Volunteer Fire Department Steak Feed, ball games, and food for sale from local vendors. The Tasting Room, held on Saturday only, has been a festival favorite featuring local food producers. It is shared with a Microbrew Tasting in Mushroom Headquarters. Mushroom Headquarters is where over a thousand pounds of morels are bought and sold by American Legion Post #85. Don’t miss the opportunity to sample fried morel mushrooms (while they last) as well as a signature mushroom brat. Fireworks light up the sky on Saturday evening and the weekend events wrap up with a parade featuring members of the UW Band at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The “morel” of the story is the trip to the Muscoda Morel Mushroom Festival is a tradition that should not be missed. This spring adventure can’t be put off, as morels are around for only a few weeks each year.
Check back in mid-April for a detailed schedule of events, along with a list of featured guest speakers.
